Targeted Skill Development
Whether you are looking to improve your overall approach to the game or develop a specific tool, training with Josh provides valuable insights into proper mechanics and fundamentals — while also teaching you how to think and focus like a big leaguer.
Hitting
Hitting is more than just a good swing; it’s a mindset. Improve your skills in the batter’s box with individualized guidance geared to maximize your swing while building a mental approach that will bring the confidence to compete with every pitcher you face.
-
No two hitters are exactly alike. Josh’s hitting philosophy is centered on creating a simple set up, launch, and swing path combined with a consistent thought process that will provide an easily repeatable approach each time you step in the box. His knowledge comes from personal experience and interactions with former teammates, some of whom are among baseball’s greatest hitters, including Miguel Cabrera, Ken Griffey Jr., Ichiro Suzuki, Adrian Beltre, and many others. By studying their routines, habits, and approaches, Josh has developed a well-rounded perspective on hitting—one that he now shares with young players looking to elevate their game.
Players taking hitting lessons can generally expect:
Swing mechanics evaluation with video analysis.
Key adjustment recommendations to improve swing path and power generation.
Targeted drill work for making recommended adjustments and swing maintenance.
Mental keys for a consistent approach and situational awareness training to help you compete under any circumstance.
Tee work and live BP session; front-side toss and off center work as recommended or requested.
Infield Defense
Good infield play is about eliminating unnecessary movement and creating a high degree of consistency in your actions. Learn the fundamentals that will put you in position to make every play.
-
Josh attributes much of his defensive success to the guidance of Perry Hill and Ron Washington, whom he worked with during his time with the Florida Marlins and Texas Rangers, respectively. Perry Hill and Ron Washington are widely regarded as the two best infield instructors in the game. Josh blends their expertise with his own personal experience to deliver the highest quality infield instruction available.
Players taking infield lessons can generally expect:
Review of proper fundamentals for consistent defensive actions (Perry Hill’s “6 Fs")
Establish pre-pitch routine to promote quickness and aggressive attack to the ball.
Targeted drills to develop soft hands and focus on the ball.
Position specific techniques to provide valuable versatility on the field.
Emphasis on eliminating all unnecessary movement to make you as efficient as possible. EFFICIENT IS FAST.
Baserunning
One of the most overlooked aspects of the game, baserunning is more than just speed. Cut down angles on the basepaths, read defensive positions, anticipate plays, get better jumps to steal bases and enhance your chances to score.
-
Quality baserunners aren’t necessarily the fastest, but they are the most prepared. They know more than the number of outs and whether or not the pitcher has a good pickoff move. They know the position of every defender on the field, their arm strength, their accuracy and so much more. Don’t rely on your 1st base coach alone, learn how to pick up tendencies and anticipate situations that will help you score runs and your team win games. Baserunning and Baseball IQ instruction will be disseminated where fit and as requested.
